Monkey is Four!! . Jay’s Birthday

Say it isn’t so! My baby is four today. Four years ago I was experiencing my first hours of motherhood and was blown away at how much I could love someone that I just met. He hadn’t sent me flowers, sweeped me off my feet, romanced me. Nope. This little guy had done absolutely nothing to earn my love and yet I loved him more than I can even describe. In that moment, I was just a wee bit closer to understanding God’s unconditional love for us. Not deserved, not earned, just is.

Fast forward four years and that love has only grown. Wow. What a ride! How do I love my little monkey! He is such a gift, a pure joy. He makes me laugh every day, puts smiles on our faces, he is the first person Liam asks for upon waking, he tells stories, is so imaginative, an independent soul, a heart full of kindness and thoughtfulness and love. Yep, he is a keeper! Born four years ago today…

To celebrate, I had quite the birthday surprise planned. If you were to meet my little man on any given day, you would learn quickly that his favorite thing in the whole wide world is his coveted collection of cars. He plays with them first thing in the morning, drives them through the day and dreams about them through the night… for real. He has woken us up in the middle of the night in a panic that his collection was not by his bed… 3 am and this is the pressing issue. No joke. So what did Mommy plan?? I turned our house into a highway system. Yep, Paul and I engineered and built an entire roadway last night. Check it out…

When Jay woke up…

What awaited him downstairs…

How old are you today?

To My Dearest Monkey Jay,

Words cannot even express my love for you. I am so thankful for you every day. What a gift you are! I am so proud of the little four year old man that you are growing in to. You have such love and tenderness for others. You think outside yourself. You have a determined independent spirit. Your creativity abounds. You are so silly. Your snuggles melt my heart. I love everything you are and everything I see growing in the man you will be one day. I love you so much and cannot image life without you. Happy Birthday Monkey!! Mommy loves you!

Your Mommy, always and forever

And because my son is, well, a boy, and boys are born drawn to gross things, this video is worth a moment for your laugh…

Great video and photos Amy! Looks like you gave your little man a very special birthday. We showed Gage the video and reminded him that Jay was the boy he got to play with at Miss Ellen’s party last fall. He got this big smile on his face, and he LOVED the roadway with all of Jay’s fun trucks. We wish you all lived closer, I think the boys would be good buddies!
